A well-rounded curriculum

Shepherd’s Flock offers a developmental child care program for young children. The program is geared toward building a positive self-image in the child, with emphasis on developing spiritual, social, emotional, physical and cognitive skills through play. The curriculum is carefully planned by professional, experienced staff to meet the developmental needs of the child within a group setting.

We also provide Christian Education as part of the daily curriculum with Bible stories and related music and crafts. A simple prayer of grace will be offered before snacks and lunch in an atmosphere of thankfulness, (i.e. “I fold my hands and softly say, thanks for all I have today. Amen”.)

Our curriculum is implemented through active learning play with a purpose. Low open shelving made into learning centers of art, blocks, science, math, manipulative games, dramatic play, music, books and language encourage children to freely explore and then initiate their own activities.

Our program welcomes children of all backgrounds, and ministers to the whole child in the following ways:

Spiritually: by teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ through grace.

Emotionally: by encouraging positive self-esteem through a stable atmosphere of love, affirmation and understanding offered by staff, volunteers and residents of Lutheran Home.

Intellectually: by stimulating intellectual growth through an age appropriate curriculum including experiences in art, math, science, language, literature, social studies, music, movement and cooking.

Physically: by providing safe, clean, and healthy environments where teachers provide learning experiences that encourage physical movement and growth.

Socially: by encouraging attitudes of cooperation and respect for one another and providing opportunities to make new friends, both young and old.

Preparing for field trips.

Field trips and nature walks are considered an important part of the educational program. We take the children on many walks around our beautiful campus and courtyards. The children in the Sonshine classroom take frequent field trips on the Shepherd’s Flock buses to places of interest. You will be notified well in advance of these trips and will be required to return a permission slip and fee. Parent chaperones are always welcome, with advance notice to the staff in charge.
